History and Founders

Anevia was born from a vision that broadband networks combined with new digital video technologies would revolutionize the TV and audiovisual worlds. The company’s founders, Alexis de Lattre, Brieuc Jeunhomme, Tristan Leteurtre and Damien Lucas, were already active in visual communications and familiar with emerging access technologies. Through their work they foresaw the potential for live television to be broadcast across telecom networks to TV screens, PCs and mobile phones.

In an initial development phase, they contributed to a video over IP project to create a multi-format digital audio and video player that was released on the mass market as a free software in February 2001. VLC (VideoLAN Client) has been downloaded over 500 million times.

Using their VLC knowledge and experience, Anevia’s founders then began development of an industrial solution for DVB to IP conversion. Placed at IPTV head-ends, the compact gateway converts audiovisual content into an IP format that can be viewed on TV, PCs and mobile phones. Combining low CAPEX with low OPEX, the gateway was launched in 2003 as Flamingo, and Anevia was born. A major innovation in the communication industry, Flamingo now equips over 10,000 TV channel head-ends across the world.

Anevia has continued to update and develop the Flamingo technologies, creating a comprehensive portfolio of solutions and applications for the hospitality and telecom industries and ensuring steady growth for the company.

However, as access technologies evolve and new distribution channels emerge, the need for more flexible delivery of live and on-demand applications has become clear. Using experience gained with VLC, Anevia has developed the 3Screens™ approach for broadcasters and telecom operators, enabling them to deliver content to TVs, PCs, Internet-based devices and 3G mobiles from the same platform. The solution brings Anevia’s founders one step closer to meeting their goal of seamless convergence of broadcast and broadband technologies. Going forward, Anevia will continue to follow an ambitious growth strategy based on the development of new and innovative technologies. The company’s founders are a driving force behind this strategy and play an active role in directing and developing the company’s activities. They remain committed to Anevia’s 3 core values:

  • Our customer success is our success
  • Innovation is our motivation
  • Our most valuable assets are our employees

Anevia’s growth has been supported by a capital investment of $7M, leveraged in March 2009. The funding has enabled Anevia to increase the company’s international presence and continue development of its 3Screen™ strategy.
