Multiscreen OTT

Over-the-top (OTT) TV delivers video content over the Internet to reach multiple devices including TVs, PCs, mobile phones, and tablets.

Recent increases in bandwidth over both fixed and mobile networks have made it possible to deliver live content creating an excellent opportunity for OTT service providers to expand services and generate new revenues.

However, as the Internet is an unmanaged network by definition, frequent fluctuations in bandwidth can cause latency and video jitter, compromising the viewing experience, especially for live programs. The success of OTT services depend on delivering content of sufficiently high quality.

To ensure an optimal viewing experience Anevia has developed an OTT adaptive bitrate streaming solution that constantly measures bandwidth capacity and automatically selects the quality of the video content to match network availability before streaming. This ensures fluid service delivery and images that are always of the highest quality possible relative to the available bandwidth.

OTT video streams use HTTP as a transport layer. However, there a re a number of different HTTP streaming formats on the market including Apple HLS, Google WebM, Adobe Flash HDS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, and MPEG DASH. Each of these formats support several types of viewing devices, but none of them serves them all. In order to reach the greatest number of viewers possible and to optimize resources, Anevia’s multiscreen OTT streaming solution includes the ViaMotion Origin server for streaming to all types of screens from a single video source.

The Anevia OTT solution addresses 2 main markets:

Telecom operators who wish to extend their coverage to users outside the reach of their managed networks.
Broadcasters who wish to deliver video services directly to viewers and beyond their existing subscriber range.
