How can we deliver an OTT service that does not sacrifice on quality?
There are two ways to ensure customer satisfaction. One is through the quality of experience or QoE, in other words making the overall experience of watching OTT content as good if not better than traditional TV through new technologies such as social TV and dual screen.
The other way is by ensuring a high QoS or quality of service. For example, when it comes to live sporting events, it is really important that viewers do not miss out on any part of the match by providing continual unbroken streaming with no drops. To do this, we need to first utilize adaptive bitrate streaming to adjust picture quality according to bandwidth availability in real-time. Quality can be further enhanced by placing popular content closer to the viewers by using HTTP cache servers such as the ViaMotion edge. Finally there are a number of tools available such as ViaMotion Probe and ViaManager Monitor that are designed to immediately recognize potential streaming issues and automatically switch to alternative sources.
